Dallas Cowboys vs Minnesota Vikings nfl match preview 2011

After coming off back to back impressive defeats of division rival Philadelphia, the Dallas Cowboys travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings, who had a bye last week in the divisional round of the playoffs in a 1:00 P.M. start on Sunday, January 17th.The Cowboys come into this game as one of the hottest teams still left in the playoffs. After starting the month of December losing two straight games, they were able to turn things around quickly with a huge 24-17 win over New Orleans.

Choice and Jones picked up 190 yards between them last week against the Eagles while Barber was limited to just three carries.Having three good backs can really make a difference if the game plan is to wear the defense out on the run, but the Minnesota defense is probably hoping to see a lot of runs.
The Vikings defense has allowed just an average of just 87.1 rushing yards per game, so don’t expect any big rushing plays like the 72-yarder that Jones had last week.

 When Dallas Has The Ball
-Dallas will try and pound it with Marion Barber at first before quick outs, bubble screens, slants and crossing patterns with their receivers. The Cowboys rely on quick reads and a bunch of draw plays in the running game to Felix Jones. Flozell Adams will need help at LT with Jared Allen, but Miles Austin and Jason Witten will caus matchup problems against a secondary that has had its difficulties this season.
When Minnesota Has The Ball
-Minnesota also will try and running it with Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor, and AP has really improved in pass catching, especially with screens. Peterson can’t afford to fumble the ball, obviously, and will take some pressure off of Brett Favre, who will be the focal point of the offense. Sidney Rice and Mike Jenkins will be an important matchup to watch on Sunday, but getting Percy Harvin in space will allow the middle of the field to be open where Vicente Shiancoe will do some damage. The Vikings offensive line will need to do well on Sunday to get Brett Favre his first playoff win against Dallas in his fourth attempt.
